Pity is a Sadness, accompanied by the idea of an evil that has happened to another whom we imagine to be like us. (See P22 S and P27 S.) Exp.: There seems to be no difference between Pity and Compassion, except perhaps that Pity concerns the singular affect, whereas Compassion concerns the habitual disposition of this affect.
